I’ve been going to the Outer Banks with my husband and his parents for several years now. It’s one of the most relaxing places we vacation. We usually stay down on Hatteras Island or Salvo, which are both further past central Nags Head. The beach is wider, there’s a lot less people, and it’s much closer to Ocracoke Island!

When I’m at the beach, I’m usually wearing something pretty casual, like these cotton/linen blend pants, a plain t-shirt, and a denim jacket. We passed a J.Crew Factory in the Outer Banks and couldn’t resist running in when we saw the 50% off sign. I was pleased when I found out my jacket was only $25! The one I’m wearing is last season’s jacket, but the current one fits the same.

Fit Tip: I’m wearing a size xxs. It fits nice and snug, while still providing enough room to move around. There’s a good bit of stretch to the jacket, which is why I got this size.

I got this straw hat (love this one here, here, and here) right before we left for the beach, and I’m so glad I did. We had several windy and humid days there, so my hair was a little crazy.

There aren’t a lot of days I can nap midday, so I take advantage of it when we’re at the beach. It’s kinda my happy place…I mean what’s not to love about a gorgeous beach, the sun shining, and tons of sand!

This year, I made it a priority to go for a run on the beach every morning. Although, I’ll admit that pancakes and french toast delayed my runs a couple days. I’m so glad I kept up with my workout schedule, because it made working out post vacation much easier.

This was the first year we didn’t go out to dinner, but I must say we ate pretty good. There was lots of home cooking and we made several seafood dishes, like fried coconut shrimp sandwiches and broiled mahi! We did find a couple pastry shops nearby, Scratchmade Snackery, which had the best chocolate croissants, and The Gingerbread House, which has amazing gingerbread and freshly baked baguettes.

Have you been to the Outer Banks? If so, where do you like to stay. Do you have any favorite restaurants or shops you like to go to?
