Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day, but it also happens to be my favorite meal! I mean, who can resist waffles or pancakes with bacon and maple syrup? And if you want to get real fancy, how about some huevos rancheros?
You’ll occasionally find me eating breakfast foods for lunch and dinner—that’s how much I love it! Since breakfast is my favorite meal, I thought it was only fitting to share some of my favorite spots around town.
Coffee and Pastry Shops
Lamplighter Coffee: With three locations in the city, this is my go-to coffee shop around town. They make all their syrups in-house, and their brown sugar latte will remain my favorite. Unfortunately, you can only get this flavor at their Addison location. While I usually only stop here for coffee, they have amazing chocolate and ham and cheese croissants.
Alchemy Coffee: This coffee shop is further into the city, so I don’t make it to this one as much as I’d like. They also make their syrups in-house and have the most delicious mocha latte. I think this one may even top the one from Lamplighter.
Subrosa Bakery: If you like savory and sweet pastries as much as I do, then you’ll love this place! They have everything from pain aux raisins, chocolate croissants, seasonal tarts, and salami and cheese croissants.
Breakfast & Brunch
Can Can Brasserie: Roger and I love going to Can Can’s coffee house, which is served daily until 11a.m. You can order from their selection of pastries, quiche and yogurt parfait. I love ordering their house coffee, because they bring you as much as you can drink! Their seasonal lattes are quite delicious but a tad on the sweet side.
Tazza Kitchen: This is one of my all-time favorite breakfast spots. I always debate on getting their breakfast pizza because they look amazing. However, I seem to always pick their huevos rancheros, which is out of this world! Also, I don’t usually like or drink bloody mary’s, but this restaurant has the best I’ve ever tasted.
Fancy Biscuit: Want more than a typical biscuit and gravy? This biscuit shop takes your average biscuit and transforms it into a fancy biscuit…(pun intended)! There’s so many delicious options — you might have a hard time picking just one.
Kuba Kuba: If you’re an omelet kinda gal, than this place is for you! They serve tons of omelet and egg options for brunch, and they’re all under $10. The portions are pretty big, so I always end up taking some leftovers home.
The Jefferson: Want some breakfast, brunch, and lunch? Head to the Jefferson Hotel for an unforgettable meal(s)! While their brunch is a bit pricey at $45 per person, you won’t leave feeling disappointed or hungry. It’s quiet an unforgettable experience and the space is architecturally gorgeous.
